Welcome to eSD 5.3! This release includes a number of new features that are designed to promote communication among stakeholders, manage staff assignments, and more.
- Automated Messaging provides automatic notifications delivered directly to parent and student eSchoolPortal inboxes.
- Online Registration Translation Support allows districts to publish online registration forms in the applicant’s native language.
- Substitute Teacher Management tools allow district staff to grant access to teacher resources.
- User Requested Enhancements have been incorporated into the eSchoolPortal, Registration, and Student Status modules based on your feedback.
With the release of version 5.3, the Communications and Messaging modules have been integrated to provide districts with the ability to send notifications to parents and students using a variety of delivery methods. In addition to distributing emails, districts can now deliver messages to parent and student eSchoolPortal inboxes based on district-defined rules related to student attendance, grade reports, schedules, and more. Districts can also distribute on-demand notifications, such as school closures, extra-curricular activities, and more. This new functionality will provide the foundation of mobile notifications when eSD Mobile is released this summer.
Online Registration Translation Support
Version 5.3 allows linguistically diverse districts to provide their communities with access to translated online registration forms. Districts can define translations for multiple languages, which will be applied to all fields and instructions within the form. Upon creating a new registration application, parents will be prompted to select their language of choice from the available drop down menu based upon the district-provided translations. This feature will be extended to the eSchoolPortals, grade reports, and other areas of the application in future releases.
Substitute Teacher Management
District staff can easily grant attendance roster and Gradebook access to substitute teachers with the release of version 5.3. The new “Assign Substitute” button, available from Staff Schedule Reports, allows staff to assign substitute teachers to one or more sections taught by a teacher. This new interface allows staff members to indicate the start and end dates of the assignment, as well as the role of the substitute teacher. In addition, staff can also update the password for substitute teacher accounts directly from this page. Upon submission, the selected staff member will have access to all of the selected sections, giving them the ability to enter attendance, grades, and more.

The account management pages have been enhanced to allow users to reset or update account passwords from a single interface.
- Inactive Households
Registrars can inactivate one or more households without students in a single transaction.
- Student Status
Status start dates can be defined during the creation of a new student status record.
