eSD Western NY Art Contest Winners Announced!
The first annual eSchoolData Login Page Art Contest was a resounding success, with over two dozen prizes awarded. The contest runs regionally in NY over the course of the school year to promote as much student participation as possible. School districts in the Western New York region were the last to compete in the 2014-15 contest, after the Northeastern New York, Hudson Valley and Long Island regions. Participating Western New York districts’ initial entries were accepted from May 2015 through June 2015. After careful consideration, the voting committee selected the First, Second and Third Place winners below:
First Place – Morgan Mansfield (Springville Griffith Institute)
Second Place – Rachael Derby (Hammondsport Central School District)
Third Place – Taylor Swartz (Starpoint Central School District)
The following students were awarded Honorable Mention:
Isabella Draine-Soto (Charter School for Applied Technologies)
Greta Gustafson (Frewsburg Central School District)
Sierra Munt (Charter School for Applied Technologies)
Samantha Nordlund (Frewsburg Central School District)
Contestants were required to submit works of art that focused on a specific theme relative to current educational topics. This year’s theme was STEM + Art, and challenged students to find how art is incorporated into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students were allowed to submit either a photograph or a scanned image of a drawing. The first place winner’s submission will appear on the eSchoolData login page as part of release 4.6 in August 2015 and will remain until the first regional winner in the 2015-16 contest is announced. In addition, all winning submissions will be displayed on the eSchoolData website at: www.eschooldata.com
eSchoolData, LLC created the art contest as a unique way to give back to school districts and the surrounding community, by promoting local art and providing monetary awards for the winning entries. It also helps art students build up their portfolio, and allows the winners to claim publishing credit for their work when applying to art schools after graduation.
