eSD Nassau & Westchester County Art Contest Winners Announced!
The first annual eSchoolData Login Page Art Contest was a resounding success, with over a dozen final entries received. The contest runs regionally in NY over the course of the school year to promote as much student participation as possible. The regions of Westchester and Nassau County were the latest to complete the contest and will be followed by Suffolk County and Western New York regional contests. The Northeast region was the first area scheduled and was completed in December of 2014. Participating districts’ initial entries were accepted from December 2014 through February 2015 by the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center and Nassau BOCES, who submitted the finalists. After careful consideration, the voting committee selected the First, Second and Third Place winners below:
First Place – Jake Montanaro (Sewanhaka School District)
Second Place – Leonardo Lertora (Southern Westchester BOCES School District)
Third Place – Michael Archibald (Baldwin School District)
The following students were awarded Honorable Mention:
Michael Renda (Southern Westchester BOCES School District)
Jennifer Oguagha (Baldwin School District)
Asharah Morris (Baldwin School District)
David Cabuenas (Sewanhaka School District)
Contestants were required to submit works of art that focused on a specific theme relative to current educational topics. This year’s theme was STEM + Art, and challenged students to find how art is incorporated into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students were allowed to submit either a photograph or a scanned image of a drawing. The first place winner’s submission will appear on the eSchoolData login page as part of release 4.4 later this month and will remain until the next regional winner is announced. In addition, all winning submissions will be displayed on the eSchoolData website at: www.eschooldata.com
eSchoolData LLC created the art contest as a unique way to give back to school districts and the surrounding community, by promoting local art and providing monetary awards for the winning entries. It also helps art students build up their portfolio, and allows the winners to claim publishing credit for their work when applying to art schools after graduation.
